In memory of Will sheaff
Will Sheaff, a member of the Movement from the 1960s, died on May 23, 2010. He had served for many years on the Executive in the 1980s and 90s being a Vice Chair for part of this time. Will was a Methodist local preacher who originated from the china clay district of mid Cornwall. A teacher by profession, his final post had been in an East End of London comprehensive teaching Religious Education.
Will lived for many years in Stevenage, Herts., where he was a local and, later after retirement, a county councillor. He had also fought an Essex constituency as a Labour parliamentary candidate. He was much concerned with the problems of drug addiction amongst young people and brought this to the Exec.'s attention.
Further into his retirement, he returned to his native Cornwall moving to Saltash to be near his son Mike who is an academic at Plymouth University. Will started the Plymouth & Saltash CSM branch. He preached regularly until quite recently not only in the scattered rural chapels of his local Methodist circuit but also back in the china clay district. His lifelong companion, his wife Mary, had died over a year previously which undoubtedly contributed to the decline in his health.
Will was greatly influenced by Donald Soper and always ready to speak his mind, totally loyal to his faith and his political convictions.
