Carbon Fast 2010: 17 February to 3 April 2010
The Carbon Fast is being run by Tearfund in partnership with the Church of England and the aim is to encourage people to respond to climate change through changing their lifestyle.
Tearfund provides simple daily actions throughout lent (17 Feb – 3 April 2010) to help people reduce their emissions, and prayer and campaign actions with a focus on protecting poor people hit hardest by climate change.
From eating two vegetarian meals per week to travelling by train instead of flying or driving to turning down your thermostat, the carbon fast aims to highlight just how much we have and the very small practical ways we can act to cut our carbon use. The first day asks participants to calculate their carbon footprint and then reduce it steadily over the course of lent.
Climate change is hitting the world's poorest people now. They've done the least to cause climate change, but feel the heat the most. Increased floods, droughts and storms are devastating lives as food, homes and livelihoods are washed away.
You can take part in the Carbon Fast as an individual, with the people you love with or with a larger group. For more information see the Tearfund website www.tearfund.org/carbonfast, you can also sign up to receive the daily actions via email. To view and download the full 40 day fast plan click here
