Alun michael mp invites you to the tawney dialogue 2009
In 2008, the Christian Socialist Movement broke new ground in encouraging grown-up dialogue between people of faith. For many years, the "Tawney Lecture" challenged Christians on the Left through thought-provoking contributions from distinguished lecturers from the late Labour Party Leader, John Smith to from David Lammy MP (in 2007). Last year, we decided to try something new - so the first "Tawney Dialogue" involved a discussion between Canon Professor Nicholas Sagowsky, who is Canon Theologian at Westminster Abbey, and Rt Hon Stephen Timms MP, the Labour Party's Vice-Chairman for Faith Communities. Not only did we have 200 people in attendance - about four times the number in recent years - but members of the audience engaged in the discussion and the response after the event showed that "dialogue works" ! This year we are going further. Bishop Stephen Lowe has challenged both the Labour Party and the Church to confront the moral dilemmas of the 21st century, while Rt Hon John McFall - in his role as Chair of the Treasury Select Committee - has challenged Government and Bankers alike to explain both the past and the future of our economy. They have been in contact to prepare a stimluating and challenging evening ........... in which we will invite you, the audience, to participate.
Do join us at the Tawney Dialogue this Thursday 7th May. Come along at 5pm, for CSM’s Annual General Meeting (lasting until 6pm), followed by refreshments and the Tawney Dialogue at 6:15pm, finishing at 8:15pm. It will be held in the Atlee Suite, Portcullis House, Westminster.
