MCU Annual Conference ‘Shifting Paradigms’
The Modern Churchpeople’s Union will hold its annual conference ‘Shifting Paradigms’ from 13th-16th July 2010. It will provide an opportunity to discuss economics and theology in the 21st century. The conference will be hosted by Canon Edmund Newell, sub-Dean of Christ Church, Oxford, and former research fellow in economic history at Nuffield College Oxford, who will be speaking on Theology, Ethics & Economics in Dialogue. It will be held at High Leigh Conference Centre, Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire.
The conference will provide a Christian perspective on the ‘credit crunch’ and other present economic concerns. Speakers include Christians and members of other faiths, and talks will cover diverse topics such as the ethics of money making, local responses to the economic downturn and implications of the credit crunch on global poverty reduction. Contributors are experts in their fields, including Guy Treweek, Philip Goodchild, Catherine Cowley, Malcolm Brown, Michael Northcott, Valpy Fitzgerald and Kathryn Tanner.
MCU is a forum for Christian debate and discussion which welcomes new insights in religious faith, applying Christian principals to the 21st centaury. MCU promotes open, honest searching for truth in a spirit of humility and respect, and this conference will provide an excellent chance to do this.
The cost of the conference will be £200-£245, and day passes are available. For more details on bookings please get in touch with the Conference Booking Secretary Elizabeth Darlington on 0161 633 3132 or e-mail conference@modchurchunion.org.
