Information about the family

We looked at a variety of sources for information and opinion about the family when writing The family and the left, some of which I list here.

The Office for National Statistics has a great deal of information about the state of the nation and includes projections of the trends it has identified. We found information from the Family and Parenting Institute useful. We found very little useful research from the mainstream progressive think tanks though the Fabian Society examined the issue last year.

The Relationships Foundation has published research and opinion on the role of the family. We also looked at what the Centre for Social Justice has been saying on the subject. We paid particular attention too, to the perspectives and information presented by Gingerbread and also Families Need Fathers. We looked at what the Labour Party and Conservative Party are saying about the family and the policies they have to address the issue. We took inspiration from The Audacity of Hope by President Barack Obama and Seven ways to change the world – reviving faith and politics by Jim Wallis of Sojourners. We found the perspectives on politics and the language of the family offered by George Lakoff in Thinking Points made us reconsider how we thought and spoke about this issue.
