Climate Prayers Week Two: Remember 2009

During 2009 there were many weather catastrophes that briefly made the headlines. When the media moved on to the next story, the people remained. These are just a few examples. Let us not forget the individuals involved.

  • In February, Victoria, Australia, experienced its worst-ever bushfire with a death toll over 200 and thousands of scarred lives.
  • In September, Typhoon Ketsana brought state-wide floods after the highest-ever rainfall in 24 hours in the Philippines. Hundreds died. Many thousands lost everything.
  • A persistent drought has stretched across East Africa, including Somalia, Djibouti, southern Ethiopia, northern and eastern Kenya, and northeastern Uganda. Tens of millions have slowly lost the ability to feed themselves.

Pray for all our neighbours worldwide who are suffering from climate-related disasters, or rebuilding their lives.
