Climate prayers - Week one: Preparations for Copenhagen Climate Summit
2 Chronicles 7:14
“If my people, who are called by my name,
Will humble themselves, pray and seek my face
And turn from their wicked ways,
Then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin
And heal their land”.
Christians in many countries are preparing for the Copenhagen Climate Summit by coming together to pray. For example, on Saturday thousands of UK Christians will gather to worship in London and Glasgow, then join major peaceful demonstrations of the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition. The highlight will be a ‘blue wave’ along the river Thames.
Such demonstrations will send a clear and strong message to politicians at the Copenhagen Climate Summit that people want a decisive response to global warming.
* Give praise that so many government leaders have promised to attend the summit in Copenhagen. Pray that more will commit to the negotiations
* Pray that crisis and illness will not prevent the leaders of the G20, in particular, from attending
* Pray Christians all over the world will be able to express their love for God and their neighbour by caring for God’s creation. And will do this in a way that draws in many who do not yet agree
