Copenhagen negotiations
As world leaders gear up for the Copenhagen Climate Conference in an effort to produce a successor to the 1997 Kyoto protocol, Europe's regions have called on policymakers to give them more power to take on environmental challenges.
The Conference is taking place on the 7th-18th December, when the the Assembly of European Regions' (AERs') call on negotiators to promote and implement an ambitious climate policy that fully addresses the energy challenges of the 21st century.
If the world fails to deliver a political agreement at the UN climate conference in December, it will be “the whole global democratic system not being able to deliver results in one of the defining challenges of our century”, says incoming COP15 president, Connie Hedegaard.
In the lead up to the conference, please join us in prayer!
Dear Lord,
As the world leaders, scientists and other organisations come together for the climate change conference, we want to pray that there will be unity amongst leaders and that a clear and strong political agreement will be made.
We pray that the new solutions will be utilised, i.e. the use of hybrid cars and solutions involving renewable energy i.e. the burning of biomass, biodegradable waste and offshore wind turbine parks.
We pray that the best information will be made available to those who are making the decisions and the changes that need to be made happen with ease.
Father, please make a way through so we can work together to govern the earth you have given us, so it can continue to be fruitful and multiply and that we can continue to respect the authority you have given us over this beautiful planet.
We pray these things together in the mighty name of Jesus.
Amen.
Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.” Genesis 1: 28-29.
