Mps of many faiths agree on values document

On 29 September 2009 at least 77 people attended the 3rd annual Faiths Reception at the Labour Party Conference in Brighton.  In attendance were Members of Parliament and Government Minister representing many of the faiths represented within the Labour Party; Christianity, Islam, Hindu, Jewish and Sikh.  Similarly, there were members of the Brighton community, religius leaders, Party Conference Delegates, members of the Christian Socialist Movement (CSM) and media personnel that also represented these faiths.

The Faiths Reception affirmed that whilst our faiths are very different, we are all willing to work together for the good of everyone within our communities.  Guest speaker, Rt. Hon. Stephen Timms MP, Treasury Minister for the Labour party, stated that faith is a good starting point for politics and he, along with Rt. Hon. Alun Michael MP and others presented a Shared Values Document.  Stephen stated that the Shared Values Document is a strong basis for political work and how Britain needs to change.

The Shared Values Document was created by a Faith Taskforce within the Labour Party chaired by Alun.  Other members of the Taskforce include MPs representative of the Christian, Islamic, Hindu, Jewish and Sikh religions.  For a complete list of signatories, all of whom were involved in the drafting of the document, please look on the last page of the document.  View the document by clicking on 'Shared Values Document'.
